From 1 July 2026, a kilometre charge for lorries will come into effect in the Netherlands. This means that from that date onwards, lorries will pay tax per kilometre driven. The amount will depend on the type of vehicle, its weight and its emission class.
The new scheme replaces the current Eurovignette and applies to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes on almost all motorways and a number of N-roads. At the same time, motor vehicle tax for lorries will be reduced to the European minimum level.
An important objective of the levy is to encourage cleaner transport. Zero-emission vehicles will soon pay considerably less per kilometre, and part of the revenue will be used to make the sector more sustainable.
